together alone is about the despair and powerlessness of not being heard by someone you love. of wanting to shake them awake to the pain they’re unknowingly causing. and yet the only thing you manage is to let it happen. 

i wrote these lines last winter out of a feeling that had been accumulating for years. in a moment that drove me to the edge of bursting.

you're talking again                                                                                                                  no permission
my mind goes blank                                                                                                                can't listen
your lips are moving up and down
i nod                                                                                                                                           the words are blurring out
can't you see it in my eyes?
sadness i can't quite disguise
swallowed                                                                                                                                   pushed down quietly
neatly stored inside of me
it feels so obvious to see
yet you ramble on and miss the mark
each word is pushing us apart
